I am the unnamed solider.
I am the Iraqi child.
I am the fallen angel.
I am the mother that cries.

The dreams of a chosen few
The tears of the forgotten crowd
The birth of a country new
The peace rallies all around

I am that which you hope for.
I am that which you fear.
I am that which you loathe,
And hide from me all you hold dear.

For I am the mother of freedom.
And I am the father of pain.
I am the brother of suffering
And the blood that runs from your vein.

Few who know me, love me.
And even less return
To dance my waltz and tango
To feel my passion burn.

I am inevitability.
I am a possible end.
So ignore your culpability
And blame it on me…

My friend.

Author's Comments

This was inspired by watching the war coverage.
This is not meant to inspire a flame war on DA.
This is merely my poem that I felt like posting.

Anyone whose nickname is 'The Butcher of...(insert city here)' is not someone I want to be in control of the lives of innocent civilians.

This is incredible. This poem is very moving...and I love the fact that the poem is a riddle and the title is the answer.

This poem is extremely deep and also excruciatingly true. I absolutely love it.
